The short documentaries present the research findings from a research project that examined insecurities or risks of vulnerable people in the Northeastern region. After interviewed 137 vulnerable people, this research identified three most common insecurity areas; economic, health, and housing. These insecurities were intertwined and could not be eradicated by the vulnerable people alone. Family support and government assistance were indicated as the most crucial mechanisms that helped the vulnerable people reduced the risks and the impact of these insecurities. However, it was worth noting that they could not eradicate the vulnerability entirely as the economic, health, and housing insecurities were likely to involve many factors and perhaps required short and long term interventions from different actors.
The research findings were valuable inputs for the next phrase of study. The identified insecurities not only allowed the researcher to gauge the vulnerability but also hidden potentials of the vulnerable population, who had more or less survive under these conditions. Also, since they rendered an understanding about interdependence of the vulnerable and other actors, they suggested potential roles of other related actors and mechanisms that helped facilitated the risk reduction or the problem-solving process. These information may lead to innovative interventions and approaches to enhance the vulnerable people’s ability and empower them to break through the cycle of vulnerability.
